We all share this planet, and we want it to be healthy and blue for as long as possible, but making eco-friendly choices has only become more difficult. Lea D'Auriol founded Oceanic Global in 2016 with the mission of engaging new audiences in the ocean conversation. Her nonprofit taps into universal passions such as art and music to raise awareness for issues impacting our oceans and to provide individual and industry solutions that drive positive change. Oceanic global takes a uniquely creative approach to conservation creating immersive experiences that engage local communities amplifying the efforts of synergistic groups to generate measurable impact and ignite global action. We go over ways that you can decrease plastic use and ultimately decrease microplastics in the ocean, along with recycling dos and don'ts, and some of her favorite ways to keep our planet blue and healthy.

We are consuming an average of about a credit card's worth of plastic each week through water, food, and the products we use
The most sustainable approach to seafood is to avoid or reduce it, and Lea recommends small fish like sardines if you do choose to eat fish
Examine how much plastic you are using each day and gamify using as little of it as possible
When it comes to recycling, wash out your items before placing them in the recycling bin
Typically plastic items marked with 1, 2, and 5 can be recycled, only 9% of items thrown into recycling bins actually are recycled, so we have a lot of room to do better
Look for consumer brands that are actually prioritizing sustainability, like zero waste skincare brands
